Dragons Lair

Serres (Central Macedonia)
Heavy Metal, Power Metal
Active:
2004-unknown

Despite our focus on the golden decades of Heavy Metal, we sometimes feel urged to include bands of a later era as well. This would be the case with Serres’ DRAGON’S LAIR – a Heavy/Power Metal act whose discography may be limited, but who showed such glorious potential that we can only mourn the fact that they didn’t stay around long enough to record a proper full-length album. The band was allegedly founded in 2004, and existed at least up until the creation of the five-track + one cover EP “Dragonheart” (2007), after which no further output is known to exist. During the time of the EP’s recordings, DRAGON’S LAIR consisted of Kostas Matziaris (vocals – CRIMSON FIRE, TIDAL DREAMS, BONFIRE), Dimitris Anastasopoulos (guitars), Manos Moutaftsis (guitars – SACRED BLOOD, WAR DEVICE), Chris Kyriakopoulos (bass) and scene veteran Michael Karatzas (drums – MACEDON HARRIERS, STILL HEAVEN).

“Dragonheart” comes highly recommended for fans of classic US Heavy/Power Metal in the vein of “Thundersteel”-era RIOT, which is probably the closest approximation of DRAGON LAIR’s choice of style. Not least for the impressive vocal performance of the then fifteen-year-old singer Kostas Matziaris, who would in later years go on to work with Germany’s BONFIRE among others.

Metal-Archives mentions two additional recordings by the band, entitled “Metal Beast” (2005) and “100% Live” (2006), but since we have no tangible information on these releases they are currently left out of the discography below.
